Throwback Post: This Weeks Pop Culture News.
Initially I wanted to write about how wrong the Oscars got the Best Supporting Actress category, and I still will, but then other things popped up and well, here I am. So buckle up, ya'll. I'm putting on my Wendy Williams hat for this one.
#OscarsSoWrong
Before I start, let me first say I did not see all the films nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category, but what I did see was an absolute disgrace to Stephanie Hsu. I didn't even watch the awards this year, but from the way people were talking about Everything Everywhere All At Once last year, I knew they'd sweep.
So here I am minding my business on Monday when I see that practically everyone involved with the film won an award except for the actress who CARRIED that movie. Sure, the mother was the lead, but the different personalities mixed with a sprinkle of action, Miss Stephanie ate that role up! I don't want to take away from Jamie Lee Curtis either, as she also did a great job, but you know that saying about when you put cute next to gorgeous? That's what it was giving.
And I know the girls are in an uproar over Angela Bassett not winning, and I'm choosing to not comment as I haven't seen Black Panther Forever...still. :)
"I am SO GLAD Juan Dixon is not here right now"...
Said the basketball team at Coppin State. There has been so much controversy surrounding Juan at Coppin State given a recent lawsuit filed by a former player that names him.
If you watch Real Housewives of Potomac, where Juan makes special appearances courtesy of his wife who is a co-star, then you know he absolutely hates that show. While he was "out working" during filming for this seasons reunion, a question was posed to his wife Robyn about the lawsuit. She said (I'm paraphrasing here) "If it was my child I would want things handled in the same way." Mind you, this is a case about SA where the student reported it to Juan and he allegedly did nothing. I'm shocked that as a former PR girl Robyn would comment anything at all let alone something so cruel that dismisses the students feelings. Even if her comments had no effect on Coppin kicking Juan to the curb, I just don't think it helped at all.
But apparently Juan had a horrendous record there and didn't help the team win any more games than before, so with that on top of the lawsuit, it's a wrap Mr. Dixon.
High & Dry
*alert* *alert* BREAKING NEWS!
One of my favorite duos and Youtube-to-fame pipeline stories, VanJess announced they are breaking up. Cue the sad music, ya'll!
During the pandemic they released a whole project, Homegrown, and unfortunately also lost a parent. Grief is hard and while the announcement didn't mention an exact reason, I know sometimes you have to find something new or go on a new journey to find yourself again. Yes, I am so sad to hear this news, but I'm always happy when people choose themselves. I'll be supporting whatever is next for them whether it's music or not and in the meantime I'll be bumping what they so graciously gave us through the years.
Well, that's all for now. Byeee!
