Throwback Post: Early 2000's Caribbean Vibes
One of my favorite trends as of late with these newer artist is them releasing a song and visuals either the same day or the next day. It's like the importance of a good video is making a comeback and I'm always here for that!
Now yesterday Hazel's mom, or as most may know her as, Victoria Monet decided to not only bless us with a new song, but also a video...on the same day! So here I was minding my business today when my friend sent me Victoria's video to her song Party Girls ft. Buju Banton. Once I saw those low club lights I was reminiscing on the early 2000's reggae explosion where all you need was a venue, some lighters, and a choreographed dance number on the floor.
I LOVE Victoria's video, song, and the vibe it brings! So I started thinking about similar videos from my youth. You couldn't tell me at bare minimum Jamaican. Yes, I'm taking a trip down memory lane. Join me and reminisce on these 5 Caribbean songs from the 2000's.
5) Beyonce ft. Sean Paul- Baby Boy (2003)
I recognize that this isn't actually a reggae song, just one with a Jamaican artist but I'll find any excuse to add Beyonce to a list.
4) Kevin Lyttle- Turn Me On (2003)
Young me wanted to be in this video real bad.... with my American flag!
3) Rhianna-Pon De Replay (2005)
When our fav came out the gate and made the DJ turn the music up>>>
2) Nina Sky- Move Ya Body (2004)
If this doesn't make you want to hit a two step at minimum Idk what to tell you.
1) Sean Paul- Get Busy (2002)
Of course Sean is starting and ending this list because that explosion of carribbean music in the early 2000's would be nothing without Mr. Paul.
I know I missed quite a few good ones, so let me know your fav if you were old enough to be outside a lil bit. Well that's all for now. Byeee!
