BEYHAW! A Cowboy Carter Review (Kinda).
As you can see, this post is late. I wasn't about to stress myself out over posting without fully digesting this album a bit more so here we are!
I'm a girl from the south who loves southern culture and while I didn't grow up with rodeos regularly I did have a daddy who was a full fledge cowboy show watching man. He had so many western DVDs back in the day I just know he would've gotten a kick out of this album.
By now ya'll should know I'm a vibes girlie so after the first listen of act ii, I wasn't really impressed. There were definitely standouts like (Bodyguard and Tyrant) but beyond that I was like "hm". It wasn't until yesterday when I had nothing but time to listen in my car 50-lem times and actually listened to the words that I said to myself "Beyonce, okay girl!" Instead of talking about every single song, lets just get into my top 4 shall we...
1. Bodyguard- This song makes me feel like I'm driving along Route 66 on a cool summers day in a convertible with the top down and not a care in the world. She sings about standing on business when it comes to her man. Just a good ol fashioned kissin', fightin', whiskey drinkin', secret tellin' country song.
2. Tyrant- 3 words: THE BEAT DROP.
DA must really got that dope because he put it in this song and now I can't stop listening to it. In addition to the beat drop, this is a nasty ass song and one thing about me, I love em! When women get in their dom and confident bag that's exactly how it makes me feel.
3. Alligator Tears- It's something about those "I adores" that really get me. I even woke up this morning with that song on my heart. This song is really about being delulu when in relationships. Like this person is doing all these things and you're allowing it. Ain't no use in crying girl. Subject matter, relatable, but I'm here for the closing vocals tysm.
4. Honestly this has been rotating. 2 Most Wanted got the girls in a frenzy Riverdance is part of her freaky frog run of songs on the album, Protector is the most beautiful song for a child I could ever imagine. I shed tears.
For purposes of messiness though, I will list SWEET HONEY BUCKIN here. In this track, we get Besighyay the rapper. Even mentioning her AOTY snub, which I love for her since she's never addressed how she's felt having never won an award she deserving of. Naturally, as a "shoulders" girl, I immediately started doing the TikTok hips and I'm not even on TikTok nor am I their demo. I am embarrazzed.
Welp, that's all for now...byeee!
