Throwback Post: Myspace.

Ah yes, Myspace. The social media platform that started it all for so many Millennials! And yes, I am talking about Myspace today because of that image from Tuesday's post... know me!! Now not only does this logo remind me of the days of heavy eyeliner and layered tops, but it also reminds me of summers during high school where I'd spend it redesigning my Myspace page.

Let's begin with those designs, shall we? Depending on your personality, there was a layout for all your needs. Were you a lil emo/goth girlie and wanted skulls, fire, and black backgrounds? Or where you a certified "Baby Girl"/ "Mami" who liked hearts, pink, and sparkly shit? I, for one, was both. I can't imagine how many websites I went to looking for the perfect background to fit my mood, although I'm positive Pimp-My-Profile won that battle a lot of the time. And in case you forgot just how serious the Myspace layout game was, here's a press release about a website launching in 2006 just for Myspace layouts and other related things.

Now once you've got your background, everybody knows you can't have that without the other customizations to go with it! These options let you keep a nice consistent look to your account if you were extra like me by giving your visitors a custom cursor that matched your theme or a sticker/emoticon message that may have said "Live Laugh Love" or "I hope you get herpes" 😬

Moving on to the next feature, we have customizable music players. Before Apple Music and Spotify, our HTML/CSS coded playlists held the keys to what we were really into.
I use to love switching up the playlist to match moods, but seasons too! Spring and summer were always a vibe. I can also neither confirm nor deny that after an argument with my boyfriend at the time, he dedicated his page to me by having "Did You Wrong" as his profile song. LOL! Was it giving effort?

Lastly, we have the very messy and infamous Top 8 feature. This may have been the first social media feature to actually have the girls fighting because what do you mean Heather* is before me when I've known you for 2 whole years, Lacy*?! (*these names are totally made up. Sorry to any Heathers or Lacys with real beef). So, were you the one to put your friends before family members when you ranked them or were you one of those people who only had their boo shown?

To sum this trip down Myspace lane up, I really just miss the simplicity of social media. Of course nothing was really simple with Myspace seeing as we were all coding and what not, but with all these data issues from other social sites I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Myspace Tom will run it back and give us a modernized version of Myspace..,with a hint of nostalgia. For now, it seems Tom is living a peaceful life in Hawaii while being a pretty awesome photographer! Maybe he'll get some inspiration to bring another platform to life soon, but until then please enjoy this image that lives rent free in my head...STILL.

Well, that's all for now. Byeee!
