Throwback Post: Making Music Videos.
Long ago in the early 2000's MTV and BET had young me in quite the chokehold. *real deep nostalgic inhale* Yep, back in my day when pop music was in its prime and the visuals made us believe we actually could meet a guy just walking in the street, at the store, or on public transportation. To this day I remember sitting in front of my TV watching how Destiny Child's "Bootylicious", Britney's "Oops I Did it Again", and "Chris Brown's "Yo" (when he told us Erica Mena had halitosis) videos were made.
Before social media ruined us all, MTV and BET use to have exclusive content of our favorite stars favorite star. From the daily countdown shows where celebs would stop by to promote a new release, a vlog style show (although professionally shot) which would follow a celeb/group, and my favorite which was MTV's Making the Video and BET's Access Granted. These 2 shows gave us an inside look at storytelling in a visual way. We were able to see the director's take/treatment of the video, saw costume changes, and our favs having fun at work.
Personally I think MTV should run it back, but this time with popular songs from the past that never got a visual. Even now artists are making videos for previously released songs (see Khia's K-Wang Wit It, Keke Palmer's Bottom's Up, and Chris Brown Under The Influence). I think it'd be a great way to pull on those nostalgic heart string but with an updated feel.
