Throwback Post: Kids (and shows) of the Millennium.
This post is for the people who use to look forward to watching Oprah, the Rosie O'Donnell Show, or something on PBS after school. The people who know the Fresh Prince theme song word for word, bar for bar. The people who still have nightmares thinking about the chameleon episode and the "I'm cold" episode of Are you Afraid of The Dark?
I came across a video recently of a dad showing his kids cartoons he use to watch as a kid in the 90's and they all got up and left during each show he tried to show them. Like how you just get up mid episode of Doug??? So it got me thinking, since I want to have my godkids during the summers for a bit, what show will I introduce to them (if their parents haven't already)?
When I think of my ALL TIME favorite childhood show I immediately go to Nickelodeon. Before Disney had me in a chokehold with Lizzy McGuire, That's so Raven and yes, Hannah Montana, I was a Nick girl. Nick Jr., Nickelodeon, Nick-at-Night, SNICK, baby it didn't matter because I was pulling up to the TV! Shoutout to my parents too because it wouldn't have been possible if they didn't allow me to have a TV in my room.
I'm not sure who was in charge of programming over at Nickelodeon, but man were they in their bag. They had some of the best shows that looked like so much fun to be on! Don't even get me started on that little show they had in between actual airings where they'd have a live audience in front of Nickelodeon studios and slime people! It was my dream!!!!!
For me, I think the show I'd want to pass on to this next generation is Rugrats. To see kids going on their own adventures and get back before their parents ever suspected a thing was so cool to see. When Tommy was on a mission the whole crew was on the mission okay? Not to mention the glimpses of the legendary Susie Carmichael and her fam, Angelica's mom spearheading the GirlBoss movement and well...Phil and Lil's parents being in the closet (???? Who knows).
A runner up though, and one I think would be better received by kids around a certain age, is Hey Arnold! I can't tell you how much I thought about Arnold and that high tech ass bedroom he had...and I wanted it BAD. We can't forget the fact he had Abner the pet pig either, then saw him navigating the city with his best friend, being kind to people who may not have been kind to him, get CRAZY when a mfer tried him(even kind people got limits), and the best part was watching a girl who had such a hard exterior get all soft and mushy just looking at him when no one else was looking.
To this DAY it's not Christmas to me unless I see that Hey Arnold Christmas episode when he helps Mr. Hyunh find his daughter. The show is filled with lots of great life lessons you won't even realize. So now, I ask you, what show will you try to pass down to your chirren?
Well, that's all for now...byeee!
