Three Fitness Lessons I've Applied to My Life.

Working out has always been a interesting journey for me. Growing up my parents use to wake me up very early on the weekends to walk around our neighborhood. I hated this because 1 its the weekend and school drained me and 2 who wants to work out? Let's be fr guys. Then I hit high school and started caring about what I looked like (with the help of early 2000's fad diets pushed down our throats of course) so I decided to dabble in fitness with my mom's Winsor Pilates and Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred DVDs. Needless to say, I was still not as thin as my peers.

Fast forward to 2020, I had 2 weddings where I was Maid of Honor and I was determined to look my best. Sure, my reasonings for starting were vain, but the point is that the motivation was there. After a while, when thinking about my fitness journey
some things just clicked for me about life. So what are these things I've realized you ask? No sweat my pet, I've got my 3 lessons learned below!

1) Consistency is key...They weren't lying.
I have always struggled with the concept of consistency. For every creative idea I've had, consistency is where I failed often. I figured if in 2 months the result you were hoping to make didn't happen, then you're wasting your time. Let me tell you how laughable that thought was because I didn't even start seeing the changes in my body until almost a year in.  And once I did, I knew I had to keep going to reach my goal.

2) Slow progress is still progress.
This one is pretty much an extension of the first point, but like anything (especially fitness bc I'm not trying to injure myself), I started out slow and walked for 30 minutes a day, then moved to using the C25K app every day, to then incorporating one of Caroline Girvan's programs 4-5 times a week. So while I'm not only physically looking better, I'm also building endurance and challenging my body in different ways which brings me to my next point.

3) Trying new things can be exciting.
One thing about fitness I love most is the variety. There are so many different types of training styles: yoga, pilates, strength training, callisthenics, high intensity, low intensity... And the beauty in this is discovering a new style you might enjoy. Just this year I found out about walking workouts (shout out to Jo) and I never knew I could sweat that much by standing up.

While these points may not be revolutionary, they've helped me change my issues with consistency by making a conscience choice to commit to a goal, recognizing that while commitment is important patience also helps you reach your goal, and even when you think you've found hobbies and interests that bring you joy, there might be something new you've never tried that will also spark some excitement for you. And one thing about me, Imma try to find the joy okay?

Well, that's all for now. Byeee.
